“We worked really hard…. we still do. Rangratna was at the top for many years to come…. but slowly… the advent of cinema…. then multiplexes and now Internet has taken a huge toll on people like us…. people and art like ours aren’t available at the click of a button. When you come and see a play… months of practice and backstage preparations go behind that production. But I guess change is the natural course. Everything changes. So has the taste of people. We still have some patrons who love the art but they are a handful. Maintaining a theatre as big as this, is not an easy affair. Then there are expenses attached to the staff and dresses and promotions. Some of our staff members are standing with us even in these times…. support staff mostly. Some of them can’t even let their children go to school on account of lack of money so Disha, Aashi and Dhaara take evening classes where they teach children of such people free of cost. We also hold theatre classes in the mornings for youngsters who are passionate about theatre but can’t afford to go to drama schools and acting institutes. Why should the children suffer? The money is draining and quite fast….. but you can’t say that about our enthusiasm and love for this art (he smiled that innocent smile of his)…… If somebody asks then I would say… Yes… Rangratna is dying….. but it isn’t dead yet…. and won’t be….. as long as we are living. There are some good people who keep donating to our theatre but most of the times it isn’t just enough!” Ashvin said with a sad smile…. “But you are not defeated unless you accept the defeat Mr. Turner! I have stolen this thought from one of Dhaara’s friends……. Satya…. SR Bose… Right Dhaara?”

Turner involuntarily jumped a little in his seat but no one noticed. Dhaara was unperturbed and replied with a serene smile “Yes Ashvin… Satya”

Turner tried to act innocent and asked: “Is it the same SR Bose who is known as ‘The Shark’ nowadays…. that famous journalist and TV presenter?”

“Oh yes he is the one. Dhaara and he were in love in college.” He said without even a trace of any negative emotion in his voice or on his face.

“You… you… you don’t mind that she….I mean Dh…Dhaara madam…” Turner was dumbstruck and struggling for words.

“That Dhaara was in love with someone before me? Why should I? Loving someone is not a bad thing. None of us Mr. Turner; and that includes my daughters too, keep secrets from each other. This has been an unwritten rule in our family….. We tell each and everything about us to every member of this family….. people keep secrets from people whom they don’t trust and there is no place for distrust in a family so we just stay transparent to each other…. We don’t need hidden cameras and detectives to know about each other.” He said as matter-of-factly in an easy going way with a chuckle.
