As she enters chai cofi (the place where all the youth in Kochi seemed to hang-out these days), she is struck by the calm, composed manner in which Hari is seated there. And she is also impressed by the fact that Hari had made the effort to be there before the agreed time. All her life, Latha had had to put up with men who took their own sweet time to get to a place, in the event that they decided to turn up at all.
As Latha walks up to the table, Hari stands up and waits till Latha is seated. They start with small talk – about their journey to the café, the tests and assignments in college and about mutual friends. At some point, Hari glances at the bookshelf in the café and turns to Latha, “What’s your all-time favorite book?”
