I woke up to the sound of the alarm clock, its sharp beat wakening my senses. I took in a deep breath as I extended my arm to shut off the device. Trying to beat the lethargy, I turned back in bed and brought the covers over me. My head lay on the cloud like pillow and I smiled as my eyes caught sight of the delicate face sleeping next to mine. Her eyes were closed, not shut tight but perfectly relaxed, keeping the soft sunlight that was now flowing into the room, out of her eyes. Her long black eyelashes flickered up and down as her eyes ventured about in her newest dream. Her thin pink lips were parted slightly as her chest moved in rhythm to her breathing. Up. Down. Up. Down. Her raven hair curled around her face and flowed effortlessly to the pillow. She shifted slightly as if somewhat awake and so I leaned forward and gently kissed her, our lips meeting as her eyes opened and then closed once again in pleasure.

I smiled inside as I carefully turned back and swung my legs out from the warm haven of the covers and without making a sound, I stretched and tied the robe around myself. Trudging towards the bathroom, I turned the hot water on in the shower. Turning to the mirror, I rubbed the golden grey stubble that had uniformly layered my lower face. Sighing in delight, I unwrapped myself and stood under the shower as the warm water made its way down my shoulders. I ran my fingers through my hair and squinted my eyes as the droplets hurried down my face and dropped off my chin. And in front of my eyelids, I saw her. Her perfectly devilish smile and her twinkling soft brown eyes looking love into mine. I recalled the smell of her hair, the soft hint of vanilla and the feeling of her smooth skin. A smile came across my face as I lived in the memories for a few moments. Stepping out, I dressed up and opened the door to the scent of lavender. The scented candles by the table had long ago burned out, but the sweet smell still filled the room.

She was still asleep on the bed, her legs curled close to her body, one arm under her pillow and the other tucked close. Her face was serene and showed a hint of a smile, as the dimples near the curve of her smile were accentuated. I drank in the image and set the coffee maker in the kitchen. I checked my watch and the hands read 6:15 am. I had 10 minutes before I had to leave for the office. If it were up to me, I would never leave her, but the life of a businessman constituted such. Sighing in disappointment, I finished my mug of coffee and placed it down in the sink.

I picked up my office bag and started towards the door, turning to get a last look at my lover. Like an angel, she was curled up in bed. Putting my bags down, I went towards the bed. Putting one arm beside her, I bent down and cupped her face. I shifted the few strands of hair that were on her face and gently kept them behind her ear. I placed my lips gently on her soft cheek and kissed her good bye. She shifted in her sleep but before she could wake up, I walked out.
